He was a retired welder with the American Laundry Co. in Norwalk, OH. He was a member of the New Haven Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Bascom H. Carter, 27, who lived near Yatesville, was drowned last Sunday when swimming in Blaine Creek near his home. He is said to have dived and failed to come to the surface. The body was recovered soon by those who were with him. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Dora Spillman Carter, and 5 children, Dorothy, Wilma, Myrtle, Harvey and Morton. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carter of near Five Forks at whose home the funeral was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. D. L. Brainard of Louisa. Burial was in the Carter Cemetery near there under the direction of Curtright Funeral Home. Surviving sisters and brothers are Mrs. Ben Church of Fallsburg, Mrs. Riley Spillman of Potter, Mrs. William Warden of Louisa, Mrs. Mart Church of Adeline, Cora, Martha and Mary at home, Henry and Clarence Carter of Ashland, Ira of Prestonsburg and Elmer of Fallsburg. Mrs. Dora Louisa Carter Bevins, 48, of Louisa route 4, died Monday night in an Ashland hospital after an illness of one month. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at the United Baptist Church at Eloise, KY, by the Rev. John Castle and the Rev. Kelly Castle. Burial will be in the Carter Cemetery at Louisa, route 4. Mrs. Bevins was born March 23, 1906, in the Twin Branch section of Louisa, a daughter of the late Jeff Davis and Molly Berry Spillman. She was a member of the United Baptist Church. Her first husband, Bascom Carter, died in 1935. She later married Dave Bevins, who died in 1941. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. James E. Gilbert of Ashland, Miss Dorothy Carter, Miss Vonda Lee Bevins and Miss Garnet Opal Bevins at home; two sons, Corporal Harvey C. The youthful victim is survived by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister. Funeral service was held Friday morning form the Irene Cole Baptist Church, with the Rev. A.C. His remains were brought here by the Curtright Funeral Home and taken back to his home Monday afternoon. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Myrtle Chapel of Five Forks and interment was made in the Carter Cemetery. Burial will be in Carter Cemetery, route 3, Louisa. The youth died about 9:10 am. Monday of a .410 shotgun wound in the abdomen, at the residence, located on Newcomb Branch, near Fallsburg, off of KY 3, according to Kentucky State Police Trooper Willis Roberts. County coroner Dr. John Ryan pronounced the youth dead at the scene, according to Trooper Roberts, with no inquest planned. The accidental shooting occurred when the boy's 10 year old brother handed him the weapon, which discharged, Roberts reported. He was born July 19, 1968, in Louisa, a son of Dan and Phyllis Rickman Newsome. Additional survivors include one sister, Mary Katherine Newsome of route 2, Catlettsburg; four brothers, Donald Newsome, John W. THOMPSON, Cella Jane (Hayton)
1904-1967
Cella Jane Thompson, 62, of Stockdale, OH, a native of Louisa, died in King’s Daughters’ Hospital at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, after an extended illness. Born in Louisa March 25, 1904, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Epperson and Estella Cere Hayton. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from the Young Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J. C. Hager officiating. Burial was in the Hayton family cemetery on route 2, Louisa. Surviving are the husband, Winfield Scott Thompson, two brothers, George Milt Hayton and James Garfield Hayton, both of Columbus, OH; five stepsons, Clarence, Charles, Lonnie, James H. and H. B. Thompson, all of Ashland, five stepdaughters, Mrs. Elmer Stevens, of Ashland, Mrs. Charles Holbrook, and Mrs. Garfield Scarberry both of Louisa, Route 2, and Mrs. Ira Preston, of Georges Creek.
