He was a coal miner at Holden, WV, and a veteran of World War II. A 26 year old Louisa woman’s life was snuffed out Thursday evening, September 5, in a two car collision on U S 23. The driver of the death car and two other occupants of the other vehicle, were injured and hospitalized. Lois Jean Henson, of 333 Jefferson Street, was pronounced dead on arrival at King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland. Ronald E. Woods, 32, of Ashland, driver of the death car was admitted  to the hospital suffering from eye injuries and other cuts about the face. Mr. and Mrs. James C. Jennings of Buchanan, KY occupants of the other car, were also admitted to KDH. Mr. Jennings, 47, driver, was considered in fair condition and is reported to have been released. However, Mrs. Jennings, 50, who suffered a broken jaw in the accident, remains a patient. She is a sister of Mrs. Charlene O’Daniel of Louisa. Kentucky State Police, Trooper Roy Ison, gave this account of the accident. The mishap occurred at 7 p.m. in Boyd County, about 4.6 miles south of Catlettsburg. The Woods car traveling North went out of control into the opposite lane crashing broadside into the oncoming Jennings car. Surviving are a son, David Randolph Henson, of route 4, Louisa; a brother, Lindsey David Davis, of Louisa, and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Hannah Adkins, of Route 1, Louisa. A 29 year old Lawrence county man was fatally injured at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday when the car he was driving collided with a semi-truck 6.7 miles north of Louisa on U. S. 23. Warren D. Pfost, Route 4,Louisa, was dead on arrival at Cabell-Huntington Hospital according to Trooper Clyde Johns of Ashland post of Kentucky State Police. Trooper Johns said Pfost was southbound when he apparently missed a detour and ran through a construction barricade north of Kentucky Power Company's Big Sandy Plant. He said the car then collided with the truck. The driver of the semi was identified as George Finley, 54, of Kenova, WV. Finley was not injured,Trooper Johns said. Mr. Ranson submitted to an operation in an Ashland hospital early last September and apparently had recovered but other complications developed and he had been seriously ill for several weeks. Death came at 5:30 Friday afternoon. Mr. Ranson was born in Putnam County, WV, May 9, 1877, a son of the late R. R. and Eliza Fisher Ranson. He came to this county about 40 years ago and had resided here since. He operated a farm near Louisa and was one of the county's most substantial farmers. He was the founder of Yates Wrecker and Auto Parts, Louisa, and a veteran of WWII. Survivors include his wife, Helen O’Bryan Yates, one daughter, Linda (Clyde) Holt of Louisa, 3 sons, L. Cullen Yates, Timothy (Lois) Yates and Paul Yates, all of Louisa, one sister, Aileen Croghan of Venice, FL and 3 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ric Frazier Friday, Nov 19, at Heston Funeral Home, Louisa, Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 89 and VFW Post 6103 at Myrtle_Chapel Cemetery. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Fanny Thompson Yates; one daughter, Mrs. Aileen Croghan of Oreville, CA; two sons, Raymond Yates of Sparrevahn, Alaska and Gordon Yates of Route 4, Louisa, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
