Patricia Patton Kentucky Room - Genealogy Research Room

The Johnson County Historical Society became partners in this Kentucky collection venture and still contributes additional materials such as books, family charts, maps, photographs, and many one of a kind items. We have census records in print of any county that boarders Johnson County as well as some more far reaching. The records start in the early 180's and extend to the 1930 census of Johnson County. We also have an abundance of local family histories that researchers have compiled into short family histories to several volumes. We have a complete set of War of the Rebellion and the microfilm that complements the items of the same war. We also have the unique collection of The Civil War Diary of Captain Edward O. Guerrant C.S.A. Our collection of the Civil War materials are unequaled in Eastern Kentucky. In addition to our local newspaper on microfilm and war materials, we also have: census records (state and federal) starting in 1810, land deeds, marriage certificates, birth/death records, court orders, tax records beginning in 1793, records from North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. The early census records on microfilm cover a large portion of the state of Kentucky. Genealogy isn't the only reason to visit our Kentucky Room. We have a non-fiction section that pertains to Kentucky and things closely related to Kentucky. We also have a collection of fiction authors such as Jesse Stuart, Sue Grafton, and many more. We will condutct genealogy research by letter or phone request. It it is $5.00 for each name requested to be researched. You must send a SASE and payment before the research is done.

If you have any genealogy questions please e-mail the Johnson County Library at johnsoncountygenealogy@gmail.com.
