He enlisted Aug 25, 1863 in Company F of 45th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, Commanded by Capt. Thomas Russell, and was Honorably discharged Dec 24, 1864 at Catlettsburg, KY. Extracted from Wallace's pension papers, this quote "In April 1864 while at Irvinville, KY, waiting on sick in hospital. I was attacked with lung fever, and remained there under the doctor of said hospital for sometime, how long I do not rembember. Ever since I had that spell of sickness I have had pain in my left lung and and in my kidneys. I was never treated by my Regimental Surgeon, and only in hospital as stated."
