Ray E. Childress, 82, of Hillsboro, KY, died Sunday, Sep 13 at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead following an extended illness. Mr. Childress was born Jun 10, 1910, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Quincy and Arvie Hughes Childress. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jane Pigg and one son, John Quincy Childress. He was a retired hardware merchant at Wheelwright, a 32nd Degree Mason, He was a member of the Wheelwright Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rites in Lexington and the Eastern Star in Wheelwright. He was also a member of the Shiloh Methodist Church in Fleming County. The funeral was conducted Tuesday, Sep 15 in Denton Funeral Home Chapel in Flemingsburg. Graveside services were also Tuesday, Sep 15 at the Wooten Cemetery in Louisa where Masonic services were conducted. Survivors include his wife, Darthula Hall Childress; one son, Ray E. Childress, Jr. of Wrightstown, NJ; 2 daughters, Clara Kitchen and Patty Justice both of Columbus, OH; 2 sisters, Roberta Daniels and Betty Miller both of Louisa, 4 grandchildren, 5 nieces and nephews. Quincy A. Childress, 81, of Louisa Route 1, died Wednesday, December 5, at his home after an illness of about a year and a half. Funeral services were conducted Friday at 2 p.m. from Moore's Chapel on Louisa Route 1, with the Rev. Gallie Isaac officiating. Burial was in the Wooten Cemetery on Louisa, route 1. He was born December 23, 1880, on Louisa Route 2, a son of the late Richard and Jane Wooten Childress. A farmer, he served as custodian for the Louisa Grade School before retiring four years ago. He was a member of the Methodist Church for 40 years. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Arvie Hughes Childress, to whom he had been married 53 years; three daughters, Mrs. Howard Pigg of Columbus, and Mrs. Ed Daniels and Mrs. Ed Miller of Louisa, Route 1, a son, Ray Childress of Louisa, four sisters, Mrs. E. F. Millem of Santa Monica, CA, Mrs. D. C. Hughes of Fleming, KY, Mrs. Bill Franks of Big Stone Gap, VA and Mrs. John Rose of Ashland; three brothers, Bozier Childress of English, WV, Bert Childress of Texas and Grover Childress of Cincinnati; and 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Mrs. Cox died February 28 in Louisa Community Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Cox was born October 27, 1891, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Samuel and Evaline Conley Hughes. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Charles Cox; three daughters, Mrs. Ed Daniels, and Mrs. Ed Miller, both of Louisa and Mrs. Howard Pigg, of Columbus, a son, Ray Childers of Wheelwright; 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
